About Calm Waters
Calm Waters is a support center for children whose lives have been changed by death or divorce. The death of a parent, sibling or other loved one can bring on turbulent and frightening times for young children and teenagers. Similar feelings often occur in children when their parents divorce.

Our mission is to teach healthy coping skills to children and their families whose lives have been affected by death or divorce.

- Our mission is to facilitate healing in

- We offer FREE grief and divorce support groups
to children and their parents/guardians ages 3-18, and young adults ages 19-25.
- Calm Waters was founded in November 1992 at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center in the
Counseling Department.
- In September 1994, Calm Waters added support groups for children whose parents were divorced.
- We provided support groups for families who
have been traumatized, i.e., Murrah Building bombing and May 3, 1999
tornado.
- In 1997, adult seminars on parenting through
divorce were added. These seminars are often mandated by the Oklahoma
County courts for parents with young children.
- In 1999, Calm Waters became an independent
non-profit organization and is listed with the Internal Revenue Service as a
501(c)(3) organization. Donations to Calm Waters are tax deductible.
- In 2002, Calm Waters served more than 1,800 people directly and indirectly.
- Calm Waters incorporated a school-based program to our list of services offered to the community.
- In 2003, Calm Waters served more than 2,000 people in our groups.
- In 2004, we served more than 2,200 people.
- In 2005, we served over 2,250 people.
- We are currently serving approximately 2,000 people in our agency-based groups and 700 in our school-based group programs.
- The school-based program reaches children in 37 groups at 20 different schools in the greater Oklahoma City area.
- Our 62 active volunteers
have been specially trained to work with children and adults who are grieving.
