Calm Waters’ Grief and Divorce/Separation Support Groups begin August 16, currently accepting families

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, August 3, 2021 – Calm Waters Center for Children and Families, the only grief center in Oklahoma City offering free grief support services to the entire family, is now accepting new registrations for their fall support group sessions beginning August 16. These FREE support groups are for children, teens and adults who have experienced a loss due to death, divorce or separation and are offered every other week at Calm Waters Center located at 501 N. Walker, Suite 140 in Oklahoma City.

Each support group includes up to ten individuals, segmented by developmental age for children or by type of loss for adult participants. All sessions are led by highly-trained Calm Waters support group facilitators.

“Grief is an incredibly isolating experience,” said Erin Engelke, Calm Waters’ Executive Director. “At Calm Waters, our support groups provide a safe space for individuals to find a community of support during their grief journey, recognize they are not alone, and learn healthy ways to cope with their loss.”

Calm Waters’ Grief support groups are offered every other Monday evening from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. and Divorce/Separation support groups are offered every other Thursday evening from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

“Because of Calm Waters’ support groups, my kids have realized that it’s okay to feel the way they feel, they are not alone and they now have new coping skills to process their big feelings,” said AnneMarie Shetley, Calm Waters client, and mother of two.

Calm Waters and its support groups have a need for Thursday evening volunteer group facilitators and free training is provided.

“If you have been on a previous grief journey because of a death, divorce or separation, and want to make a difference for others who are in a current grief journey, consider volunteering for Calm Waters as a support group facilitator,” said Hannah Showalter, LMSW, Calm Waters’ Assistant Program Director. “Grief Theory and facilitator training, background checks, a free t-shirt, and the experience of changing people’s lives, are included in this volunteer role.”
