Calm Waters Hosts Ripples of Hope Benefit Breakfast

Event Will Benefit Children and Families Grieving the Death of a Loved One

Thursday, August 25  |  7:30 am – 9:00 am

Oklahoma City, August 10 – Calm Waters Center for Children and Families, the only grief center in Central Oklahoma offering free grief support services to children and families, will host its annual benefit breakfast, Ripples of Hope, on Thursday, August 25, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the Will Rogers Theatre, 4322 N. Western Ave., Oklahoma City.

As the only agency providing grief-focused mental health services, Calm Waters serves thousands of children in grief each year, many of whom are grieving the loss of a parent or sibling. An estimated 1 of 11 children in the US will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18. But in Oklahoma, the impact is severe, especially for Black or African American children. 1 in 9 children from that population will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18.

When Edmond resident Anthony Robinson lost both of his parents to a murder/suicide at the age of 7, he struggled to cope and experienced overwhelming anger and behavior issues as a result. With the support of his adopted family and other resources, he is now a thriving adult and mentor to children who are struggling with the same trauma.

Anthony Robinson is joining Calm Waters at Ripples of Hope as the event’s Keynote Speaker. Anthony will be sharing his story for the first time publicly in efforts to raise money and awareness for Calm Waters.

“We are incredibly honored to have Anthony as the keynote speaker for our benefit breakfast. We know his story will strike a chord with those who attend,” said Erin Engelke, Calm Waters Executive Director. “He and his family have experienced tremendous loss in their lives and, as a result, understand the importance of other children and families receiving help through Calm Waters free grief support programs.”

Miss Oklahoma 2021 Ashleigh Robinson, Anthony’s cousin and adopted sister, will emcee the breakfast event. Calm Waters is also honored to announce featured speaker Gene Rainbolt, founder of BancFirst and founding director of Calm Waters in 1992.

Sponsors for Ripples of Hope include Bank of Oklahoma, BancFirst, Kimray, OG&E, Charlotte Lankard, Megan Ellis, Lance & Cindy Ruffel, HSPG & Associates, COMP Risk Management, Ashley & Jeff Perkins, Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School, Cherish & Matt Ralls, Western Concepts Restaurant Group, Donna & Bruce Lawrence, Red Earth Productions and Kay Goebel, PHD.

All proceeds from Ripples of Hope will benefit Calm Waters, which provides free grief support services for children and families on their grief journey caused by death, divorce or other significant loss. Individual tickets are available for $50 each and sponsorship levels range from $250-$5,000.
