Camp Courage provides a safe and healing environment that allows children to express their feelings of loss through art. Camp activities include artist-led drawing, painting, mixed media, dance, yoga, gardening, and much more! During pick up from camp, we will display a gallery art show for the families and peers of campers.
Camp Requirements:
Volunteer as a Group Leader
Group leaders set the stage for a fun, supportive environment! We look for group leaders interested in connecting with children and preteens while leading them from activity to activity. To build connections and bonds with campers, group leaders are encouraged to commit to the full day of camp so the campers can get to know their leaders.
Volunteer as an artist:
At camp, we invite local artists to create an activity sharing their artistic medium for about 30-45 minutes. We also encourage artists to teach campers how they got into the art, how it is a self-care activity, and how it’s supported them on their grief journey. As a Camp Courage artist, you will be asked to pick a time slot during the day to teach our different age groups of campers. We ask every artist to send a description of the activity they will lead, along with how the activity connects to your personal grief journey. Calm Waters seeks to provide all supplies needed for the art activity, so we ask that the artist submit a list of items required. Finally, we encourage artists to attend a brief meeting before camp to get information.
