Community Grief Training

Objective: To learn the basics regarding language, techniques, and best practices when interacting with anyone who has experienced grief or significant loss events. The training also provides information about Calm Waters services and other resources in the community. This training is the general education course in grief work and language. All Calm Waters volunteers are required to attend Community Grief Training before they can progress in the process toward becoming a trained support group facilitator.

The training is free for Calm Waters volunteers and staff for partner agencies. Otherwise, there will be a fee to attend.

Support Group Facilitator Training

Objective: Support groups are an effective way to offer emotional support to those grieving. Group work also offers community and understanding to those seeking to adjust to a new normal following a significant loss. Calm Waters Support Group Facilitator training teaches guidelines and best practices when facilitating grief groups for ages three and up. Participants will learn the support group model and approach, and how to lead a support group. In order to complete the training,  there is a mandatory observation component.

The training is free for Calm Waters volunteers and staff for partner agencies. Otherwise, there will be a fee to attend.

Support Group Facilitator Training will be scheduled with Program Director Bailey Maxey, bailey@calmwaters.org.

Clinical Grief Training

Objective: To learn interventions, techniques, and best practices for providing clinical services to clients aged three and up. The clinical portion of this training provides a deeper dive into helping clients of all ages process and work through their grief in individual and family counseling. Treatment procedures and interventions will be discussed using the Dual Process Model of Bereavement and Worden’s Tasks of Mourning. Special topics such as traumatic grief and complicated grief will also be addressed.
