In 1992, Sondra Woodruff was looking for grief support for her young son, wanting to help him cope with the loss of his father. Determined to find mental health services for her family, she took out the Yellow Pages and started calling local therapists. After nearly 200 calls with no luck, Sondra found what she was looking for when Charlotte Lankard, LMFT, answered the phone.
Charlotte realized there was a critical lack of grief support services in Oklahoma City. With the help of a good friend, Gene Rainbolt, Charlotte established free grief support groups in the basement of Integris Hospital. From there, her vision for Calm Waters grew into an organization that annually benefits thousands of children and families on their grief journeys.
The Charlotte Lankard Giving Society was established to recognize the individuals and organizations that share Charlotte’s passion for serving children and families on their grief journeys.
