Student Grief Support Groups

Calm Waters offers FREE, 9-week Student Support Groups during the fall and spring. They are open to any child, Pre-K to 12, in the state of Oklahoma, who has experienced loss due to:

  • Death
  • Divorce
  • Foster Care & Adoption
  • Military Deployment
  • Incarceration
  • Deportation

Each support group is organized by age and availability and in-person groups will commence once at least five students within their age-group at the same school address are enrolled in an in-person group. The in-person student support groups will begin at each partner school’s discretion and each school may host as many 9-week support groups as needed.

All support groups are led by Calm Waters’ highly-trained support group facilitators. If you would like to receive the 4-hour FREE support group training and facilitate your own student support group, please register to become a Calm Waters volunteer or email the Calm Waters Program Coordinator, Abby Tooley, at Tooley@CalmWaters.org and call 405-841-4800 for more information.

The continued goal of all student support groups is to teach children coping skills that they will utilize for the rest of their lives.

Parents and Guardians must approve their child’s participation through registration and a signed consent form.

Calm Waters’ 9-week student support groups are for ages Pre-K to 12 and take place for 45 minutes during one school day each week. Each support group is for to 5 to 8 students and follows Calm Waters grief curriculum.

Attendance in a Calm Waters Support Group often helps students process their feelings and experiences, with the goal of positively impacting coping skills, behavior, and achievement.

Calm Waters provides grief training and support group facilitators for schools, Pre-K to 12, to conduct free 9-week grief support groups during the school day, utilizing Calm Waters curriculum. Children who have experienced a significant loss in their lives such as death, divorce, foster and adoptive care, incarceration, deportation, and deployment will benefit from a Calm Waters school support group.
